Frequently Asked Questions

How should Artvin honey be stored?

Store it in a tightly sealed glass jar in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Refrigeration is not necessary; 18–24°C is ideal. Keeping the jar in a warm environment is enough to help prevent crystallisation.

What is crystallisation? Is it normal?

Crystallisation is the formation of small crystals over time from honey's natural sugars, glucose and fructose. It does not mean that your honey has spoiled; rather, it is a sign that it is natural and additive-free. You can easily return it to its previous consistency by placing the jar in warm water below 40°C for 10–15 minutes.

What is the difference between chestnut honey and flower honey?

Flower honey, also called highland honey, is light golden in colour with a mild fruity aroma and crystallises more quickly; it is ideal for breakfast and families with children. Chestnut honey is dark amber, with a pronounced bittersweet, mineral taste, and crystallises slowly; it pairs well with cheese and yoghurt and is more often preferred by adults.

Is it suitable for children?

Children over one year of age can consume natural, additive-free honey. No honey should be given to babies under one because of the risk of infant botulism. You may consult your paediatrician about an appropriate daily amount for your child.

What does cold extraction mean?

Cold extraction is the process of straining honey below 40°C to remove beeswax and foreign particles. This method preserves honey's natural enzymes, vitamins and pollen content, retaining nutritional qualities that heat-treated honeys may lose.

How much honey should be consumed daily?

For adults, one to two tablespoons, or 20–30 g, a day is enough. Honey contains natural sugars that are absorbed more slowly than refined sugar, but people with diabetes should consult their doctor because of its effect on blood sugar.
